  1. SQUADRON HOLIDAY POTLUCK - DEC 20, 2018

    1. The squadron will be having a holiday potluck on Dec 20, 2018. Cadets and their families are welcome to attend.

    2. Each level has been asked to bring a specific type of dish. Each cadet should bring enough to feed their own family. Please note below which level is bringing what type of dish:

      1. Level 1 - Dessert

      2. Level 2 - Drinks

      3. Level 3 and 4 - Entrees

      4. Level 5 - Salads/Appetizers

  2. 2019 STAFF CADET APPLICATIONS

    1. Cadets who are wishing to be a Staff Cadet for the summer of 2019 can indicate their interest here NO LATER THAN December 20th, 2018.

    2. Please be advised that cadets MUST be 16 years old AND have COMPLETED LEVEL 4 by June 2019, in order to qualify to be a staff cadet.

  3. 2019 REGIONAL SUMMER CAMP APPLICATIONS

    1. Cadets who are wishing to be attend Regional Summer Camps during the summer of 2019 can indicate their interest here NO LATER THAN January 17th, 2019

    2. A description of all available summer camps can be found here. Please note the dates for specific courses on page 6 of this document.

    3. Please ensure that you are eligible for the camp you wish to attend BEFORE signing up. A list of eligibility can be found here.

      1. Please note the eligibility chart indicates the level that the cadet applicant must complete PRIOR to attending summer camp. (Ie. A cadet currently in level 3 will complete level 3 before the summer, and is therefore eligible to apply for everything under the Level 3 column)

      2. The chart also shows the MINIMUM level required to attend each course (Eg. A cadet finishing Level 3 may apply for camps in the Level 2 column, if he/she wishes to attend one of those camps

  4. SQUADRON STAND DOWN - DEC 21, 2018 - JAN 03, 2019

    1. In light of the holidays, the squadron will be standing down from Dec 21, 2018 - Jan 03, 2019. There will be no training taking place during this time period.

    2. The first training activity taking place in 2019 will be the Squadron Training Weekend from Jan 04-06, 2019 (See the post below for more details)

    3. The first parade night back at Seaforth Armoury in 2019 will be Thursday, January 10th, 2019.

    1. There will be a mandatory squadron training weekend from Jan 04 - 06, 2019. Please ensure you are available during this weekend.

  6. FLYING ENTRANCE EXAM - JAN 05, 2019

    1. The Flying Entrance Exam for ALL flying scholarships (Glider and power) will take place on Jan 05, 2019. The exam is tentatively scheduled to take place at a BCIT campus, with more details to follow shortly.

    2. ALL APPLICANTS TO GLIDER OR POWER ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE THIS EXAM.

  7. SQUADRON FAM FLYING AT BOUNDARY BAY - JAN 12 (AM) AND 13 (AM), 2019

    1. The squadron will be conducting Familiarization Flying in powered aircraft on the morning of January 12th and 13th, 2019.

    2. We will be able to accommodate 9 cadets each morning (3 flights, with 3 cadets per flight)

    3. All cadets are encouraged to attend. More information and sign up can be found here

  8. BAND CLINIC - JAN 12-13, 2019

    1. There will be a band clinic for all Lower Mainland cadets interested in improving their music skills and obtaining their music certification.

    2. All interested cadets should sign up here and inform Lt(N) Wisla of their intentions to attend (michael.a.wisla@gmail.com).

    3. More details regarding location and timings will be provided closer to the date, but is tentatively scheduled to take place at the J.P. Fell Armoury in North Vancouver.

  9. FTX D’HIVER - JAN 25-27, 2019

    1. The squadron is planning a WINTER FTX from Jan 25-27th, 2019 at Golden Ears Provincial Park.

    2. All cadets are encouraged to attend! Cadets may sign up here.

    3. Further information, including a detailed packing list specific for a Winter FTX, will be distributed closer to the date.

  10. SCHOLARSHIP CAMP MERIT REVIEW BOARDS - JAN 26-27, 2019

    1. The MERIT REVIEW BOARDS for ALL Scholarship Camp Applicants will take place on the weekend of Jan 26-27, 2019.

    2. ALL 135 Cadets who applied to scholarship camps are required to sit the Merit Review Board in order to be considered for their course of choice.

    3. Merit Review Boards for 135 cadets will take place on either Jan 26th or Jan 27th. However, as the schedule has not been finalized yet, all applicants should make themselves available for both dates.

    4. The exam is tentatively scheduled to take place in Port Moody. More details to follow shortly.

  11. SQUADRON MARKSMANSHIP

    1. The Squadron Marksmanship team should take note of the following dates:

      1. The Zone Marksmanship competition will be February 24th, 2019.

      2. The Provincial Marksmanship competition will be on April 5-7th, 2019.

  12. BAND COMPETITION - APRIL 2019

    1. 135 will be participating in the 2019 Lower Mainland Band Competition with a joint band with sea cadets from HMCS Discovery.

    2. If you were NOT in the band, but play an instrument and would like to participate in the 2019 band competition, please email Lt(N) Wisla (michael.a.wisla@gmail.com) and inform him of your interest, as well as what instrument you play.

  13. SUN RUN TEAM - APRIL 14TH, 2019

    1. 135 will be putting together a squadron team of cadets who are interested in participating in the 2019 Vancouver Sun Run, taking place on April 14th, 2019.

    2. The Sun Run is an annual 10km run around the City of Vancouver and is once of the largest 10km runs in North America! This is a great opportunity to improve your physical fitness and to build teamwork!

    4. All cadets are encouraged to participate, no matter what your fitness level or running experience!

  14. DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD

    1. The squadron will be starting the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards program! This is a great opportunity for our cadets to challenge and develop themselves.

  4. 111 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT - DEC 15, 2018

    1. 135 Bell-Irving has been invited to participate to a volleyball  tournament hosted by 111 Pegasus RCACS.

    2. CV Deng is looking for 8-10 motivated cadets to be part of 135’s volleyball team! All those interested can sign up here.

    3. The volleyball tournament will take place on Saturday December 15th, 2018. It is tentatively schedule for 0800 - 1700h at Eric Hamber Secondary School.

  1. NATIONAL SUMMER CAMP APPLICATIONS - DUE MONDAY NOV 26, 2018

    1. This announcement pertains to cadets applying to one of the following National Summer Camps: Aircraft Maintenance, Aircraft Operations, Glider, Power, and International Exchange

    2. Cadets are REQUIRED to meet Capt Smith at Seaforth Armoury at 1830 on Monday, November 26th 2018 to submit and double-check all documentation required for their camp of choice. If this time does not work for you, please email 135rcacs@gmail.com@gmail.com ASAP to make alternative arrangements.

    3. A detailed list of documentation required for each course can be found here.

  2. D-DAY EUROPEAN TRIP MEETING - NOV 26 2018

    1. There will be a mandatory D-Day trip meeting on Monday, Nov 26 2018 at 1900 hrs. The meeting will take place at Seaforth Armoury.

    2. We will need all participants and there parents and guardians to attend the meeting. We will be going over a more detailed itinerary.

    3. All participants must bring there passwords as well so we can ensure all passport dates. Other decision to be made are:

      1. Roommates

      2. Jackets and hats

      3. Optional activities

      4. Additional fundraising

    1. Our SSC Chair Caroline will be selling Cineplex Movie Certificates for $9.25 each (regular $13!) with a minimum order of 10 certificates. Our goal is to place an initial order for 800 certificates. The deadline for ordering is November 30th.

    2. Families will receive their Cineplex Movie Certificates in the 2nd week of December. Payment must be made by cheque payable to 135 Bell-Irving Sponsoring Committee. Please bring your cheques to Caroline on Thursday nights.

    3. This is a great opportunity to support the squadron and to get a great deal on movies! Please email 135ssc@gmail.com if there are any questions.

  1. SQUADRON SWIMMING - NOV 22, 2018

    1. This Thursday, Nov 22 2018, the squadron’s training night will be a squadron swimming night! We will be swimming at Hillcrest Community Center Pool (4575 Clancy Loranger Way). Cadets are to arrive at 1830 and can be picked up at 2100.

    2. Cadets are to bring appropriate swimming attire, along with a towel and a change of clothes.

  9. D-DAY EUROPEAN TRIP MEETING - NOV 26 2018

    1. There will be a mandatory D-Day trip meeting on Monday, Nov 26 2018 at 1900 hrs. The meeting will take place at Seaforth Armoury.

    2. We will need all participants and there parents and guardians to attend the meeting. We will be going over a more detailed itinerary.

  1. NATIONAL SUMMER CAMP APPLICATIONS - DUE NOV 26, 2018

    1. Applications for National Summer Camps have opened. National Summer Camp Courses include Aircraft Maintenance, Aircraft Operations, Glider, Power, and International Exchange.

    2. Cadets must be in Level 3 or above to apply for National Summer Camps. (Please note some camps will require you to be in Level 4 or above)

  2. SQUADRON FAM FLYING AT BOUNDARY BAY - DEC 02, 2018

    1. Our SSC Chair Caroline will be selling Cineplex Movie Certificates for $9.25 each (regular $13!) with a minimum order of 10 certificates. Our goal is to place an initial order for 800 certificates. The deadline for ordering is November 30th.

    2. Families will receive their Cineplex Movie Certificates in the 2nd week of December. Payment must be made by cheque payable to 135 Bell-Irving Sponsoring Committee. Please bring your cheques to Caroline on Thursday nights.

  1. CO’S PARADE - PROMOTIONS AND FITNESS TESTING - NOV 08, 2018

    1. Next week Nov 08, 2018, will be a Commanding Officer’s Parade. We will also be doing Fall promotions! All parents, family and friends are invited to attend!

    2. Following CO’s parade, cadets will be engaging in fitness testing. Therefore, cadets should bring appropriate civilian sports attire and a water bottle.

  2. REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE - NOV 11, 2018

    1. ALL CADETS are REQUIRED to attend the Remembrance Day Parade on November 11th, 2018. The parade will take place at VICTORY SQUARE in Downtown Vancouver.

    2. Cadets are to be in C1s, and are to meet at 0900 at the EasyPark Parkade at the corner of Cambie and Pender. Directions can be found here.

Squadron Announcements - Week of October 25th, 2018

  1. POPPY TAGGING OCT 27-28

    1. UPDATE - 135 will ONLY be poppy tagging in the AM and PM of Oct 27-28. at the Billy Bishop Legion (The Nov 3-4 weekend will be covered by our neighbours, the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders Army Cadet Corps). Directions to the Billy Bishop Legion (1407 Laburnum St) can be found here.

    2. Shifts will run approximately from 0900-1300 and from 1200-1600. If parents are able to stay and drive cadets to close tagging locations, that would be much appreciated!

    3. Dress for ALL CADETS will be C1 (Full Uniform) with Parka’s. NEW RECRUITS may wear appropriate civilian clothing with a warm jacket.

  2. UNIFORM NIGHT - OCT 29, 2018

    1. The squadron’s Standards Officer, Lt Malinab, will be hosting a tutorial/refresher session for ALL CADETS to learn and improve their techniques on how to iron, polish, prepare and wear your uniform!

    2. It will take place on Monday October 29th, 2018 at 1830h at Seaforth Armoury. Cadets may attend in civilian clothing but should bring their ENTIRE UNIFORM with polishing kits with them to the session.

    3. ALL CADETS, from new recruits to WO2s, are encouraged to attend, as this event has the potential to drastically improve your uniform standards and marks!

    1. The Mighty Wings Jazz Ensemble is a band made up of cadets all throughout the Lower Mainland and Richmond.

    2. The audition for the Might Wings Jazz Ensemble will take place on Sunday Oct 14, 2018 from 1500 to 2100h at Sherman Armoury.

    3. The ensemble is looking for cadets who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, piano and vocals, but all cadets are encouraged to apply to join this amazing opportunity!
