Squadron Announcements - Week of December 6, 2018

  1. SQUADRON HOLIDAY POTLUCK - DEC 20, 2018

    1. The squadron will be having a holiday potluck on Dec 20, 2018. Cadets and their families are welcome to attend.

    2. Each level has been asked to bring a specific type of dish. Each cadet should bring enough to feed their own family. Please note below which level is bring what type of dish:

      • Level 1 - Dessert

      • Level 2 - Drinks

      • Level 3 and 4 - Entrees

      • Level 5 - Salads/Appetizers

  2. 2019 STAFF CADET APPLICATIONS

    1. Cadets who are wishing to be a Staff Cadet for the summer of 2019 can indicate their interest here NO LATER THAN December 20th, 2018.

    2. Please be advised that cadets MUST be 16 years old AND have COMPLETED LEVEL 4 by June 2019, in order to qualify to be a staff cadet.

  3. 2019 REGIONAL SUMMER CAMP APPLICATIONS

    1. Cadets who are wishing to be attend Regional Summer Camps during the summer of 2019 can indicate their interest here NO LATER THAN January 17th, 2019

    2. A description of all available summer camps can be found here. Please note the dates for specific courses on page 6 of this document.

    3. Please ensure that you are eligible for the camp you wish to attend BEFORE signing up. A list of eligibility can be found here.

      1. Please note the eligibility chart indicates the level that the cadet applicant must complete PRIOR to attending summer camp. (Ie. A cadet currently in level 3 will complete level 3 before the summer, and is therefore eligible to apply for everything under the Level 3 column)

      2. The chart also shows the MINIMUM level required to attend each course (Eg. A cadet finishing Level 3 may apply for camps in the Level 2 column, if he/she wishes to attend one of those camps

  4. 111 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT - DEC 15, 2018

    1. 135 Bell-Irving has been invited to participate to a volleyball  tournament hosted by 111 Pegasus RCACS.

    2. CV Deng is looking for 8-10 motivated cadets to be part of 135’s volleyball team! All those interested can sign up here.

    3. The volleyball tournament will take place on Saturday December 15th, 2018. It is tentatively schedule for 0800 - 1700h at Eric Hamber Secondary School.

  5. SQUADRON STAND DOWN - DEC 21, 2018 - JAN 03, 2019

    1. In light of the holidays, the squadron will be standing down from Dec 21, 2018 - Jan 03, 2019. There will be no training taking place during this time period.

  6. SQUADRON TRAINING WEEKEND - JAN 04-06, 2019

    1. There will be a mandatory squadron training weekend from Jan 04 - 06, 2019. Please ensure you are available during this weekend.

    2. Cadets may sign-up here. More details will be posted shortly.

    3. If you will be away due to the holidays, please email 135rcacs@gmail.com as soon as possible.

  7. FLYING ENTRANCE EXAM - JAN 05, 2019

    1. The Flying Entrance Exam for ALL flying scholarships (Glider and power) will take place on Jan 05, 2019. The exam is tentatively scheduled to take place at a BCIT campus, with more details to follow shortly.

    2. ALL APPLICANTS TO GLIDER OR POWER ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE THIS EXAM.

  8. SQUADRON FAM FLYING AT BOUNDARY BAY - JAN 12 (AM) AND 13 (AM), 2019

    1. The squadron will be conducting Familiarization Flying in powered aircraft on the morning of January 12th and 13th, 2019.

    2. We will be able to accommodate 9 cadets each morning (3 flights, with 3 cadets per flight)

  9. BAND CLINIC - JAN 12-13, 2019

    1. There will be a band clinic for all Lower Mainland cadets interested in improving their music skills and obtaining their music certification.

    2. All interested cadets should sign up here and inform Lt(N) Wisla of their intentions to attend.

    3. More details regarding location and timings will be provided closer to the date, but is tentatively scheduled to take place at the J.P. Fell Armoury in North Vancouver.

  10. FTX D’HIVER - JAN 25-27, 2019

    1. The squadron is planning a WINTER FTX from Jan 25-27th, 2019 at Golden Ears Provincial Park.

    2. All cadets are encouraged to attend! Cadets may sign up here.

    3. Further information, including a detailed packing list specific for a Winter FTX, will be distributed closer to the date.

  11. SCHOLARSHIP CAMP MERIT REVIEW BOARDS - JAN 26-27, 2019

    1. The MERIT REVIEW BOARDS for ALL Scholarship Camp Applicants will take place on the weekend of Jan 26-27, 2019.

    2. ALL 135 Cadets who applied to scholarship camps are required to sit the Merit Review Board in order to be considered for their course of choice.

    3. Merit Review Boards for 135 cadets will take place on either Jan 26th or Jan 27th. However, as the schedule has not been finalized yet, all applicants should make themselves available for both dates.

    4. The exam is tentatively scheduled to take place in Port Moody. More details to follow shortly.

  12. SQUADRON MARKSMANSHIP

    1. The Squadron Marksmanship team should take note of the following dates:

      1. The Zone Marksmanship competition will be February 24th, 2019.

      2. The Provincial Marksmanship competition will be on April 5-7th, 2019.

  13. DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD

    1. The squadron will be starting the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards program! This is a great opportunity for our cadets to challenge and develop themselves.

  14. SQUADRON ASSESSMENT FEES

    1. ALL CADETS, returning or new, are required to pay the Squadron Assessment Fee. Those who have not WILL NOT be allowed to participate in any squadron extra-curricular activities.
