Squadron Announcements - Week of March 7th, 2019

  1. STANDARD FIRST AID TRAINING - MAR 16 AND 17, 2019

    1. 888 Avenger RCACS is holding Standard First Aid Training on the weekend of March 16 and 17th, 2018, and they have graciously allowed 135 cadets to join any UNFILLED spaces they have leftover.

    2. Cadets who are interested should speak to FSgt Chan AND email 135rcacs@gmail.com to express their interest.

    3. Interested cadets will be placed on a wait-list on a first-come-first-serve basis to fill any vacant leftover spots that 888 has not filled. Cadets chosen will be notified and given further details as soon as they have been chosen.

    4. Tentative times are 9am to 5pm on BOTH days. Cadets MUST attend BOTH days to acquire their Standard First Aid certification. If you CANNOT make both days, please do not sign-up.

  2. MEDAL APPLICATIONS - DUE MAR 21, 2019

    1. Applications for the following medals have opened:

      1. Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence

      2. Lord Strathcona Medal

    2. Only one of each medal is allotted and they will be awarded at this year’s Annual Ceremonial Review on May 26th, 2019.

    3. All applications MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE OFFICE BY 2130h ON MARCH 21ST, 2019.

    4. Cadets may apply for both medals if they wish, provided they meet all requirements outlined in the respective application forms.

    5. To apply for the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence:

      1. You must complete the application form found here.

        1. Requirements for this medal are outlined in the application form and applicants must meet ALL requirements to be eligible.

    6. To apply for the Lord Strathcona Medal:

  3. FTX OMEGA - MAR 29-31, 2019

    1. The squadron is planning our spring FTX from March 29-31, 2019 in Chilliwack. This is a mandatory FTX and all cadets are required to attend. Any known absences must be reported by email to 135rcacs@gmail.com AT LEAST 2 WEEKS prior to the weekend.

    2. Cadets may sign up here.

    3. Further information, including a detailed packing list and permission form will be posted and distributed closer to the date.

  4. SPRING TAG DAYS - APR 05-07, 2019

    1. The squadron will be having Tag Days from Apr 05-07, 2019. This is a key part of our squadron fundraising!

    2. Cadets are expected to do a minimum of 2 shifts. Sign-up’s can be found here.

      1. Please note that you will be able to edit your responses after submitting if you need to change your shifts.

    3. Please note that timings may change slightly closer to the day. Please email 135rcacs@gmail.com if there are any questions, concerns or requests for shift changes after signing up.

  5. 655 DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT - APR 07, 2019

    1. 135 will be participating in a dodgeball tournament hosted by 655 Steveston RCACS! The tournament will take place on Saturday April 7th, 2019 from 0800 - 1700 at Hugh McRoberts Secondary School (8980 Williams Road, Richmond BC). A map can be found here.

    2. Those who are interested in participating should speak to CV Deng and sign up here.

  6. GLIDING - APR 14, 2019

    1. 135 has been assigned a gliding date on Apr 14, 2019.

    2. Timings will be confirmed and a sign-up sheet will be posted shortly, but all those interested in gliding should keep the day free!

  7. 135 ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT - APR 27, 2019

    1. 135 will be hosting and participating in an ultimate tournament taking place on place on Saturday April 27th, 2019 from 0800 - 1700 at UBC. The specific detail and address of the field will be provided closer to the day of the tournament.

  8. SQUADRON HIKE - APR 28, 2019

    1. The squadron is inviting all cadets to hike the Trachan Trail on Cypress mountain on Sunday April 28th, 2019. Cadets may sign up here.

    2. Cadets will meet at 0900 and the hike should end by 1200. Cadets will need to arrange their own transportation to and from Cypress mountain. Lunch will NOT be provided.

    3. More information will be posted closer to the date. Please note that timings may change closer to the date.

  9. BAND COMPETITION - MAY 11, 2019

    1. 135 will be participating in the 2019 Lower Mainland Band Competition with a joint band with sea cadets from HMCS Discovery.

    2. If you were NOT in the band, but play an instrument and would like to participate in the 2019 band competition, please email Lt(N) Wisla (michael.a.wisla@gmail.com) and inform him of your interest, as well as what instrument you play.

  10. DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD

    1. The squadron will be starting the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards program! This is a great opportunity for our cadets to challenge and develop themselves.

  11. SQUADRON ASSESSMENT FEES

    1. ALL CADETS, returning or new, are required to pay the Squadron Assessment Fee. Those who have not WILL NOT be allowed to participate in any squadron extra-curricular activities.
