Squadron Announcements - Week of November 8th, 2018

  1. NATIONAL SUMMER CAMP APPLICATIONS - DUE NOV 26, 2018

    1. Applications for National Summer Camps have opened. National Summer Camp Courses include Aircraft Maintenance, Aircraft Operations, Glider, Power, and International Exchange.

    2. Cadets must be in Level 3 or above to apply for National Summer Camps. (Please note some camps will require you to be in Level 4 or above)

    3. The deadline for applications is Monday November 26th, 2018. Please speak to Lt(N) Wisla or email him at michael.a.wisla@gmail.com.com if you are interested in applying.

  2. SQUADRON FAM FLYING AT BOUNDARY BAY - DEC 02, 2018

    1. The squadron will be conducting Familiarization Flying in Powered aircraft on Dec 02, 2018.

    2. We will be able to accommodate 9 cadets (3 flights, with 3 cadets per flight)

    3. All cadets are encouraged to attend. More information and sign up can be found here.

  3. 111 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT - DEC 15, 2018

    1. 135 Bell-Irving has been invited to participate to a volleyball tournament hosted by 111 Pegasus RCACS.

    2. CV Deng is looking for 8-10 motivated cadets to be part of 135’s volleyball team! All those interested can sign up here.

    3. The volleyball tournament will take place on Saturday December 15th, 2018. It is tentatively schedule for 0800 - 1700h. The location has yet to be determined, but the squadron plans to arrange transport for all cadets participating.

  4. SQUADRON FUNDRAISING - CINEPLEX MOVIE TICKETS

    1. Our SSC Chair Caroline will be selling Cineplex Movie Certificates for $9.25 each (regular $13!) with a minimum order of 10 certificates. Our goal is to place an initial order for 800 certificates. The deadline for ordering is November 30th.

    2. Families will receive their Cineplex Movie Certificates in the 2nd week of December. Payment must be made by cheque payable to 135 Bell-Irving Sponsoring Committee. Please bring your cheques to Caroline on Thursday nights.

    3. This is a great opportunity to support the squadron and to get a great deal on movies! Please email 135ssc@gmail.com if there are any questions.

  5. D-DAY EUROPEAN TRIP

    1. Cadets taking part in the D-Day European trip must submit their passports before the end of December so the tour provider can begin booking flights.

    2. There will be a D-Day Euro trip meeting next month (exact date and time TBD). All participants and their parents are expected to attend.

  1. CO’S PARADE - PROMOTIONS AND FITNESS TESTING - NOV 08, 2018

    1. Next week Nov 08, 2018, will be a Commanding Officer’s Parade. We will also be doing Fall promotions! All parents, family and friends are invited to attend!

    2. Following CO’s parade, cadets will be engaging in fitness testing. Therefore, cadets should bring appropriate civilian sports attire and a water bottle.

  2. REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE - NOV 11, 2018

    1. ALL CADETS are REQUIRED to attend the Remembrance Day Parade on November 11th, 2018. The parade will take place at VICTORY SQUARE in Downtown Vancouver.

    2. Cadets are to be in C1s, and are to meet at 0900 at the EasyPark Parkade at the corner of Cambie and Pender. Directions can be found here.

    3. Cadets can expect to be dismissed at 1300.

      2. For all cadets without uniform yet, the squadron T-shirt, with a black/grey long-sleeved shirt underneath is acceptable, along with black pants and black shoes.

        1. If you do not have a squadron T-shirt yet, please follow the same dress mentioned above without the T-shirt.

  7. GROUND SCHOOL

    1. Ground school has already started since Sunday October 7th, 2018. This will be a joint ground school with 111 Pegasus RCACS. Due to changes in the flying scholarship examinations, ONLY CADETS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE AND WILL BE APPLYING TO GLIDER/POWER THIS SUMMER ARE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE PART IN THIS GROUND SCHOOL SESSION.

    2. If you have NOT been attending ground school, but plan to apply to glider/power this year, please email 135rcacs@gmail.com ASAP.

    3. Cadets who are interested in ground school but are NOT applying to glider/power this year are invited to take part in another ground school session in the Spring of 2019.

Squadron Announcements - Week of October 25th, 2018

  1. POPPY TAGGING OCT 27-28

    1. UPDATE - 135 will ONLY be poppy tagging in the AM and PM of Oct 27-28. at the Billy Bishop Legion (The Nov 3-4 weekend will be covered by our neighbours, the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders Army Cadet Corps). Directions to the Billy Bishop Legion (1407 Laburnum St) can be found here.

    2. Shifts will run approximately from 0900-1300 and from 1200-1600. If parents are able to stay and drive cadets to close tagging locations, that would be much appreciated!

    3. Dress for ALL CADETS will be C1 (Full Uniform) with Parka’s. NEW RECRUITS may wear appropriate civilian clothing with a warm jacket.

    4. In light of this, if you have signed up for a shift on the Nov 3-4 weekend, please email 135rcacs@gmail.com to try and do shifts on Oct 27 or 28th. If you are unable to do any shifts, please email us as well to inform us.

  2. UNIFORM NIGHT - OCT 29, 2018

    1. The squadron’s Standards Officer, Lt Malinab, will be hosting a tutorial/refresher session for ALL CADETS to learn and improve their techniques on how to iron, polish, prepare and wear your uniform!

    2. It will take place on Monday October 29th, 2018 at 1830h at Seaforth Armoury. Cadets may attend in civilian clothing but should bring their ENTIRE UNIFORM with polishing kits with them to the session.

    3. ALL CADETS, from new recruits to WO2s, are encouraged to attend, as this event has the potential to drastically improve your uniform standards and marks!

  3. SQUADRON RANGE NIGHT - OCT 29, 2018

    1. Capt Blackstock will be hosting a range night on Oct 29, 2018 at Seaforth Armoury from 1900-2130h for any cadets interested in gaining more experience shooting the Daisy Air Rifle.

    1. ALL CADETS are REQUIRED to attend the Remembrance Day Parade on November 11th, 2018.

    2. The parade will take place at Victory Square in Downtown Vancouver.

    3. Cadets should expect to be involved with the parade from 0900 to 1300.

  7. GEOCACHING EVENT - NOV 10, 2018

    1. 135 will be running a geocaching event on Saturday, November 10th 2018. Timings are still being determined, but the event will roughly take place between 0900 - 1700h.

    2. ALL cadets are expected to participate in at least 2 shifts between the 4 days. Please make sure you make yourself available accordingly.

    3. The indoor soccer tournament will take place on Saturday November 17th, 2018 from 0800 - 1700h in Tsawwassen, BC. We plan to arrange transport for all cadets participating.

  3. MIGHTY WINGS JAZZ ENSEMBLE

    1. The Mighty Wings Jazz Ensemble is a band made up of cadets all throughout the Lower Mainland and Richmond.

    2. The audition for the Might Wings Jazz Ensemble will take place on Sunday Oct 14, 2018 from 1500 to 2100h at Sherman Armoury.

    3. The ensemble is looking for cadets who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, piano and vocals, but all cadets are encouraged to apply to join this amazing opportunity!

135 RCACS will be having our annual open house for new cadets and their families on Thursday, Sept 27th.

Doors will open at 1900hrs that evening. We will be providing tours, information about the cadet program, our sponsoring committee and all the amazing opportunities the cadet program offers.

We will also be providing light refreshments for guests.
